Mel Stottlemyre and Red Ruffing are the only pitchers to do so twice.• Of the current Yankees with at least 20 Opening Day at-bats, Hideki Matsui has the best career average at .450. A-Rod has a .241 career average on Opening Day, though he is at .400 (8-for-20) in his four openers with the Yankees.
